The Houston Texans have signed undrafted rookie WR Dwight Jones out of North Carolina. Jones is 6’4″, 205 pounds and he runs a 4.5 40. Jones plays faster than his timed speed on the field, as he has little problem making plays down the field. He is a little inconsistent catching the ball as he has had his fair share of drops. Still, Jones is going to have a decent shot of making the Texans’ roster….because he should have been drafted. Most “experts” had Jones getting picked in the 3rd or 4th round. Jones played in 13 games (all starts) at North Carolina last year and he caught 85 passes for 1,196 yards (14.1 avg) with 12 TD grabs. He played in 36 games (25 starts) in his four years with the Tar Heels and he caught 152 passes for 2,163 yards (14.2 avg) with 16 TD grabs. This was a solid signing for the Texans.

The Houston Texans have signed undrafted rookie QB Case Keenum out of Houston. Keenum is 6’0″, 205 pounds and he runs a 4.9 40. Keenum was an awesome college QB. He is very accurate on the short stuff, but he doesn’t have the arm strength to pound the ball down the field. Keenum only played out of the shotgun in college, so he will need to prove himself under center if he’s going to make it in the NFL. Keenum played in 14 games (all starts) for Houston last year and he completed 428 of 603 passes (71%) for 5,631 yards with 48 TD passes and 5 INTs. Keenum played in 57 games (51 starts) in his five years with the Cougars and he completed 1,546 of 2,229 (69.4%) passes for 19,217 yards with 155 TD passes and 46 INTs. Case Keenum will have to beat out John Beck for the #3 QB for the Texans in training camp.
