The Houston Texans got outstanding production out of the QB position in 2009

28-year old Matt Schaub finally stayed healthy for a complete season and he put up staggering numbers.  Schaub played in 16 games for the Texans this season and he completed 396 of 583 passes (67.9%) for 4,770 yards with 29 TD passes and 15 INTs (98.6 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 48 times for 57 yards (1.2 ypc) this year.  Schaub got robbed for the Pro Bowl as he outplayed Tom Brady.  Maybe he will make it next season if he has another year like he did in 2009.  Schaub has now played in 76 games in his NFL career and he has completed 923 of 1,413 passes (65.3%) for 11,087 yards with 59 TD passes and 40 INTs (91.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 120 times for 300 yards (2.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs in his career.

29-year old Rex Grossman was the only other Texans’ QB to get on the field this season.  He played in 1 game and he completed 3 of 9 passes (33.3%) for 33 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (5.6 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 3 times for 9 yards (3.0 ypc) this season.  Grossman has now played in 37 games in his NFL career and he has completed 524 of 971 passes (54%) for 6,197 yards with 33 TD passes and 36 INTs (69.5 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 58 times for 89 yards (1.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs.  The Texans will probably stick with Dan Orlovsky as the back-up QB in 2010 and let Grossman go.

Jacoby Jones is the secret weapon for the Houston Texans

25-year old WR/PR/KR Jacoby Jones has really been a excellent player for the Texans this season.  He has played in 11 games for the Texans this season and he has caught 17 passes for 276 yards (16.2 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 2 times for 22 yards (11.0 ypc) this year.  Jones is really the most dangerous on special teams for the Texans as he has returned 21 kickoffs for 579 yards (27.6 avg) with 1 TD return and he has also returned 36 punts for 397 yards (11.0 avg) this season.  Jones has now touched the ball 76 times this season for 1,274 yards (16.8 avg. per touch) and he has 5 total TDs.  Jones is averaging 115.8 all-purpose yards per game this season.

The Houston Texans are banking on Arian Foster to give them a running game

23-year old undrafted rookie RB Arian Foster looks like he will be the main man in the running game tomorrow.  Foster has played in 3 games for the Texans this season and he has carried the ball 13 times for 34 yards (2.6 ypc) and he has also caught 4 passes for 54 yards (13.5 avg).  Starting Foster probably says more about what the Texans think about Ryan Moats and Chris Brown than it says for him.  Still, the Texans need Foster to take the bull by the horns tomorrow and give them a solid running game.

The Houston Texans need Chris Brown and Ryan Moats to step up

The Texans need Chris Brown and Ryan Moats to handle the load in the running game with Steve Slaton done for the year.  Chris Brown will be the starter this weekend at RB.  He has carried the ball 71 times for 249 yards (3.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs and he has also caught 13 passes for 69 yards (5.3 avg) this year.  Moats has carried the ball 66 times for 261 yards (4.0 ypc) with 3 TD runs and he has also caught 8 passes for 64 yards (8.0 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Brown & Moats are more than capable of doing a decent job the rest of the year for the Texans.

Jacoby Jones is a difference maker for the Houston Texans

25-year old WR/KR/PR Jacoby Jones is a difference maker for the Houston Texans because of his speed.  Jones has carried the ball 2 times for 22 yards (11.0 ypc) and he has also caught 13 passes for 238 yards (18.3 avg) with 3 TD grabs this year.  Jones makes his biggest impact for the Texans on special teams.  He has returned 29 punts for 333 yards (11.5 avg) and 20 kickoffs for 550 yards (27.5 avg) with 1 TD return this season.  Jones has touched the ball 64 times in his 9 games this season for the Texans for 1,143 all purpose yards for a average of 17.9 yards every time he touches the football.  That is a average of 127 yards per game and the Texans are damn glad to have them on their side.
