The Houston Texans release DT Amobi Okoye

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 1:48 pm

The Texans have released 24-year old DT Amobi Okoye.  Okoye played in all 16 games for the Texans last year and he had 44 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks and 1 fumble recovery.  He played in 62 games in his four years with the Texans and he had 138 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and he has defensed 5 passes.  Okoye was a disappointment for the Texans and he wasn’t a good fit in Wade Phillips’ new D in Houston.

The Houston Texans release WR David Anderson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 1:46 pm

The Texans have released 28-year old WR David Anderson.  Anderson played in 12 games (1 start) for the Texans last year and he had 11 receptions for 117 yards (10.6 avg).  He played in 61 games (10 starts) in his five years with the Texans and he caught 81 passes for 886 yards (10.9 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  This is not much of a loss for the Texans as Anderson was pretty far down the depth chart.

The Houston Texans have released QB Dan Orlovsky

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 8:18 pm

The Texans have released 27-year old QB Dan Orlovsky.  Orlovsky played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Texans last year and he didn’t throw a pass or carry the ball.  Orlovsky has played in 13 games (7 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has completed 150 of 272 passes (55.1%) for 1,679 yards with 8 TD passes and 8 INTs (71.3 QB Rating).  Orlovsky also has carried the ball 7 times for 29 yards (4.1 ypc) in his career.  Orlovsky is 0-7 as a starting QB in the NFL, so the Texans decided it was better to go with Matt Leinart as the backup QB in 2011.

The Houston Texans release Eugene Wilson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 20 February 2011 at 9:45 pm

The Texans have released 30-year old safety Eugene Wilson.  Wilson played in 14 games for the Texans last season in which he had 56 tackles and he defensed 3 passes.  Wilson played in 34 games in three years with the Texans in which he had 148 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble and 4 interceptions.  The defense needs a massive overhaul in 2011 and Wilson just didn’t play well enough to keep his job.  If the Texans miss Wilson at all, they will be having an awful year.

The Houston Texans release Andre Davis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 20 February 2011 at 9:41 pm

The Texans have released 31-year old WR/KR Andre Davis.  Davis didn’t play at all last season due to an injured hip.  He played in 40 games in his four years with the Texans and he caught 52 passes for 855 yards (16.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He also returned 108 kickoffs for 2,743 yards (25.4 avg) with 3 TD returns for the Texans.  The Texans did just fine without Davis last season and that’s what likely cost him his job.

The Houston Texans release DT Frank Okam

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 4:33 pm

The Texans have released 25-year old DT Frank Okam.  Okam played in 5 games for the Texans this year and he had 1 whopping tackle.  Okam played in 10 games in three years with the Texans and he could only muster 5 tackles.  This is absolutely no loss for the Texans despite all of the troubles they have had on D this year.

The Houston Texans release two players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 20 October 2010 at 5:36 pm

The Texans have released 25-year old linebacker David Nixon and 34-year old OT Ephraim Salaam.  Nixon played in 3 games for the Texans this year and he had 10 tackles.  Salaam has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Texans this year.  He played in 48 games (30 starts) in his five years with the Texans.  The Texans have players coming back from injuries which led to the release of these two players.

The Houston Texans release Danny Clark

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 6 September 2010 at 7:59 pm

The Texans have released 33-year old linebacker Danny Clark.  Clark only played in 1 pre-season game for the Texans this year and he didn’t make any tackles while defensing one pass and intercepting 1.  He played in 16 games for the Giants last season and he had 53 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 passes defensed.  The Texans won’t miss Clark much as they think his gas tank is on E.

The Houston Texans cut Kris Brown

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 4 September 2010 at 11:28 am

The Texans have cut 33-year old kicker Kris Brown.  Brown is the all-time leader in points scored in Texans’ history with 767.  He played 8 years for the Texans playing in all 128 games in team history.  He made 172 of 223 field goals (77.1%) and 251 of 253 extra points in his career with the Texans.  34-year old Neil Rackers beat him out for the starting kicker job.  Rackers played in 14 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 16 of 17 field goals (94.1%) and 37 of 38 extra points good for 85 points.  This is a good move for the Texans as Brown didn’t kick well at all for them last year.

The Houston Texans waive Jeremiah Johnson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Injury Reports,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 4 September 2010 at 10:42 am

The Texans have waived 23-year old RB Jeremiah Johnson as he has a dislocated toe that will cause him to miss at least 1 month.  The Texans are working on a injury settlement with Johnson so that they can sign him to the practice squad.  Johnson looked pretty good in the pre-season for the Texans.  He played in 4 games over the pre-season for the Texans and he carried the ball 19 times for 107 yards (5.6 ypc).  He also caught 1 pass for 6 yards.  Due to his injury the Texans should have little problem signing him to the practice squad.
