The Houston Texans waive WR Derrick Mason

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 13 December 2011 at 1:50 pm

The Texans have waived 37-year old WR Derrick Mason.  Mason played in 7 games for the Texans and he caught 6 passes for 55 yards (9.2 avg).  He played in 12 games overall this year with the Jets and Texans in which he caught 19 passes for 170 yards (8.9 avg).  Mason has played in 230 games in his NFL career and he has caught 943 passes for 12,061 yards (12.8 avg) with 66 TD grabs.  Mason had a really good career in the NFL, but the needle on his gas tank is really close to empty.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 26 October 2011 at 7:03 pm

The Houston Texans have released 25-year old WR/PR Trindon Holliday.  Holliday played in 1 game for the Texans this year and he didn’t catch any passes.  He did return 1 punt but he didn’t get any yards.  The Texans aren’t going to miss Holliday at all as he has not shown anything in his time with them.

The Houston Texans waive DE Tim Bulman

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 14 September 2011 at 12:40 pm

The Houston Texans have waived 28-year old DE Tim Bulman.  Bulman played in 31 games in his five years with the Texans and he had 38 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass defensed and 1 tackle for a loss.  This isn’t much of a loss to the Texans who have really improved along the defensive line for the 2011 season.

UPDATE:  (9/17/2011) – The Texans have re-signed Tim Bulman.

The Houston Texans release Quintin Demps

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 9:24 pm

The Texans have released 26-year old safety Quintin Demps.  Demps played in 2 games for the Texans last year and he had 1 tackle.  He has now played in 27 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 33 tackles, 4 passes defensed, 1 interception, 1 sack and 2 forced fumbles.  This is addition by subtraction as Demps isn’t much of a player.

The Houston Texans release DT Damione Lewis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 2:20 am

The Texans have released 33-year old DT Damione Lewis.  Lewis played in 10 games for the Texans last year and he had 17 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass defensed.  He has played in 141 games in his first 10 years in the NFL and he has 262 tackles, 23.5 sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, 4 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 15 passes defensed.  Some team will probably pick up Lewis, but the Texans shouldn’t miss him at all as he is an average player at best.

The Houston Texans release CB Antwaun Molden

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 31 August 2011 at 11:53 pm

The Texans have released 26-year old CB Antwaun Molden.  Molden played in 14 games for the Texans last season and he had 6 tackles.  He played in 32 games in his three years with the Texans and he had 28 tackles.  Most of his work was done on special teams.  The Texans shouldn’t miss him too much, but he was quickly snapped up off waivers by the Patriots.

The Houston Texans release DT Amobi Okoye

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 1:48 pm

The Texans have released 24-year old DT Amobi Okoye.  Okoye played in all 16 games for the Texans last year and he had 44 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks and 1 fumble recovery.  He played in 62 games in his four years with the Texans and he had 138 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and he has defensed 5 passes.  Okoye was a disappointment for the Texans and he wasn’t a good fit in Wade Phillips’ new D in Houston.

The Houston Texans release WR David Anderson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 1:46 pm

The Texans have released 28-year old WR David Anderson.  Anderson played in 12 games (1 start) for the Texans last year and he had 11 receptions for 117 yards (10.6 avg).  He played in 61 games (10 starts) in his five years with the Texans and he caught 81 passes for 886 yards (10.9 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  This is not much of a loss for the Texans as Anderson was pretty far down the depth chart.

The Houston Texans have released QB Dan Orlovsky

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 8:18 pm

The Texans have released 27-year old QB Dan Orlovsky.  Orlovsky played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Texans last year and he didn’t throw a pass or carry the ball.  Orlovsky has played in 13 games (7 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has completed 150 of 272 passes (55.1%) for 1,679 yards with 8 TD passes and 8 INTs (71.3 QB Rating).  Orlovsky also has carried the ball 7 times for 29 yards (4.1 ypc) in his career.  Orlovsky is 0-7 as a starting QB in the NFL, so the Texans decided it was better to go with Matt Leinart as the backup QB in 2011.

The Houston Texans release Eugene Wilson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 20 February 2011 at 9:45 pm

The Texans have released 30-year old safety Eugene Wilson.  Wilson played in 14 games for the Texans last season in which he had 56 tackles and he defensed 3 passes.  Wilson played in 34 games in three years with the Texans in which he had 148 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble and 4 interceptions.  The defense needs a massive overhaul in 2011 and Wilson just didn’t play well enough to keep his job.  If the Texans miss Wilson at all, they will be having an awful year.
