New Orleans Saints 38, Houston Texans 14

The Texans ran into a buzzsaw last Saturday Night in Houston.  Matt Schaub was effective completing 11 of 16 passes for 97 yards with 1 TD pass.  Dan Orlovsky was not as lucky as Schaub as he completed 11 of 17 passes for 136 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also lost a fumble.  Alex Brink finished up this game by completing 5 of 8 passes for 38 yards with 1 interception.  Steve Slaton led the way for the Texans on the ground in this game with 30 yards rushing on 6 carries (5.0 ypc).  WRs Glenn Martinez (45 yards) and Andre Johnson (38 yards) each caught 4 passes apiece in this game.  The Texans finished up with 325 total yards of offense in this game (70 rushing, 255 passing).

LBs DeMeco Ryans and Kevin Bentley led a poor defensive effort by the Texans with six tackles apiece in this game.  The Saints rolled up 420 total yards of offense in this game (173 rushing, 247 passing).  The Texans even played poorly on special teams allowing WR Rod Harper of the Saints to return a punt 79 yards for a TD.  The Texans have a lot to work on before the games start counting.

The Texans have signed 27-year old CB Cletis Gordon to a 1-year deal.  Gordon played in 14 games (1 start) for the Chargers last season and he made 13 tackles and defensed 1 pass.  Gordon has now played in 30 games (1 start) in his NFL career and he has made 29 tackles and has defensed 3 passes.  Gordon has also returned 3 kickoffs for 73 yards (24.3 avg) and 3 punts for 12 yards (4.0 avg) in his NFL career.  This was a good depth signing for the Texans.

UPDATE:  The Texans have released Gordon as he failed to impress.

The Houston Texans lose Cato June for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Injury Reports, Breaking News, Front Page by admin on Saturday 29 August 2009 at 8:48 pm

The Texans have placed 29-year old linebacker Cato June on the Injured Reserve List ending his season due to a broken forearm.  June played in all 16 games for the Bucs last season (14 starts) and he made 67 tackles, defensed 2 passes and he had 1 interception.  June was the kind of veteran backup all teams like to have so he will be missed.

The Houston Texans lose Rex Grossman

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Injury Reports, Breaking News, Front Page by admin on Monday 24 August 2009 at 10:13 pm

The Texans have lost Rex Grossman for at least 1 month with a pulled hamstring.  The Texans have re-signed Alex Brink to replace Grossman as the #3 QB.  This means that Dan Orlovsky will be the #2 QB for the Texans when the season starts.

The Houston Texans sign Khary Campbell

The Texans have signed 30-year old linebacker Khary Campbell.  Campbell played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Redskins last season and he made 13 tackles.  Campbell has now played in 81 games (1 start) in his 7-year NFL career and he has made 101 tackles.  This should help out the special teams for the Texans and with depth on defense.
