The Texans have signed DE Antonio Smith to a 5-year, $35 million dollar contract.  The 27-year old Smith played in all 16 games for the Cardinals last season and he made 41 tackles, had 3.5 sacks and he forced two fumbles.  At 6′4″, 285 pounds Smith is more of a run defender than a pass rusher, but, that fills a need on the defense for the Texans.  Smith has now played in 60 games in his NFL career and he has 125 tackles, 14.5 sacks and he has forced 3 fumbles.  This was a good signing for the Texans.

The Houston Texans trade QB Sage Rosenfels to the Vikings

The Texans have traded 30-year old QB Sage Rosenfels to the Minnesota Vikings for a 4th round pick in this year’s draft.  The Texans got good value for a veteran QB who likes to give the football to the opposing team way too often.  The Texans will likely sign a veteran to back up Matt Schaub in 2009.
