The Houston Texans acquired center Chris Myers after the Broncos had signed him to a 4-year, $11 million dollar contract for a 6th round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.  The 26-year old Myers started all 16 games last season for the Broncos and he will likely be the Texans’ starting center in 2008 and beyond.  Myers has now played in 41 games (16 starts) in his 3-year NFL career.  Getting a starting lineman for a 6th round pick is always a good move.

The Texans have signed OLB Chaun Thompson to a 2-year, $2.4 million dollar contract.  Thompson played in 16 games for the Browns last season and he made 21 tackles, had 1 sack and defensed 1 pass.  He has now played in 80 games in his NFL career and he has made 212 tackles, has 10.5 sacks, defensed 7 passes and forced 2 fumbles.  Thompson will battle Kevin Bentley for a starting job at outside linebacker.  He also will likely play on special teams where he was productive for the Browns in the last few seasons.

The Texans have signed RB Chris Brown to a 2-year contract.  The 26-year old Brown played in 12 games last season for the enemy Titans and he carried the ball 102 times for 462 yards (4.5 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He also caught 19 passes for 128 yards (6.7 avg).  Brown has now played in 54 games in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 643 times for 2,757 yards (4.3 ypc) with 16 TD runs.  He also has caught 74 passes for 667 yards (9.0 avg) with 2 TD grabs in his career.  Brown’s running style fits the Texans’ offense well so he will likely succeed as long as he can stay healthy which has been an issue so far in his NFL career.

The Texans have signed linebacker Kevin Bentley to a 3-year, $4 million dollar contract.  He played in 14 games for the Seahawks last season and he made 27 tackles.  He has now played in 87 games in his NFL career and he has made 280 tackles, defensed 7 passes, forced 2 fumbles and he has intercepted 1 pass.  Bentley will likely be a backup and special teams ace for the Texans.

The Texans have signed CB Jacques Reeves.  Reeves played in 16 games last season for the Texans and he made 61 tackles, defensed 12 passes, intercepted a pass and he forced a fumble.  He has now played in 60 games in his NFL career and he has made 108 tackles, defensed 19 passes, forced 1 fumble and he has one interception.  Reeves is a solid player who should help the Texans.
