The Houston Texans have gotten solid production out of their QBs this season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 29 November 2007 at 4:22 pm

The Texans brought in Matt Schaub in the off-season and he has played pretty well for them.  Sage Rosenfels has also played well when Schaub has been injured this season.  Schaub has completed 189 of 284 passes (66.5%) for 2,207 yards with 9 TD passes and 9 interceptions (87.3 QB Rating) so far this season.  Although the QB ratings are very close, Schaub is the better athlete and he will likely remain the starter.  Sage Rosenfels has completed 61 of 93 passes (65.6%) so far this season for 729 yards with 7 TD passes and 6 interceptions (87.6 QB Rating) so far this season.

The Texans made some big turnovers and the Browns made them pay for it on Sunday.  Matt Schaub completed 22 of 36 passes for 256 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 interceptions.  Ron Dayne was effective in carrying the ball 16 times for 78 yards (4.9 ypc) but he wasn’t used a lot in the second half of the game because the Texans were playing catch-up.  Owen Daniels had a good game with 7 catches for 82 yards (11.7 avg) with a TD grab but he also had a crucial fumble late in the game.  Kevin Walter also had a solid game with 6 catches for 65 yards (10.9 avg) with a TD grab.  Andre Davis (3 rec, 51yards) and Andre Johnson (3 rec, 37 yards).   The Texans finished up with 77 yards rushing on 18 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 36 passes for 237 yards.

Demeco Ryans (11 tackles), Von Hutchins (10 tackles) and CB Fred Bennett (7 tackles, interception) led the way on “defense” for the Texans.  The Browns finished up with 148 yards rushing on 33 carries (4.5 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 35 passes for 249 yards.

The Texans pretty much pushed the Saints around yesterday.  Matt Schaub was outstanding as he completed 21 of 33 passes for 293 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions.  Ron Dayne had another solid game running the football with 21 carries for 89 yards (4.2 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 26 yards (8.7 avg).  Andre Johnson returned in a big way for the Texans as he caught 6 passes for 120 yards (20.0 avg) with a TD grab.  TEs Owen Daniels (5 rec, 74 yards) and Joel Dressen (1 rec, 10 yards, TD) both helped out in the passing game.  The Texans finished up with 103 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 33 passes for 287 yards.

The Texans defense was a swarming bunch against the Saints.  DeMeco Ryans (10 tackles), Von Hutchins (9 tackles, interception) and Morlon Greenwood (9 tackles, interception) led the way for the Texans on defense.  The Saints finished up with 47 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 49 passes for 280 yards.

The Houston Texans lose CB Dunta Robinson for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 7 November 2007 at 1:58 am

The Texans have lost starting cornerback Dunta Robinson for the remainder of the season after he damaged his ACL and tore his hamstring on Sunday against the Raiders.  Robinson made 34 tackles and had 2 interceptions this season.  This could cripple the Texans’ pass defense as Robinson is their best defensive back.

Houston Texans 24, Oakland Raiders 17

The Texans decided to play conservative on offense to control the clock and it worked to a T.  Sage Rosenfels completed 11 of 19 passes for 181 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 19 yards (2.7 ypc).  Ron Dayne had his best game of his NFL career as he rushed for 122 yards on 21 carries (5.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Ahman Green also got a little work in as he carried the ball 8 times for 28 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 53 yards.  Andre Davis had a solid game for the Texans with 2 grabs for 51 yards (25.5 avg) and a TD.  TE Owen Daniels pitched in with 4 catches for 41 yards.  The Texans finished up with 178 yards rushing on 39 carries (4.6 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 19 passes for 181 yards.

The Houston Texans sign QB Craig Nall

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 11:16 am

The Texans have signed Craig Nall to backup Sage Rosenfels until Matt Schaub is ready to return.  Nall was with Texans coach Mike Sherman in Green Bay so the Texans feel comfortable with him coming in.  Nall has played in 6 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he is 23 of 33 passing (69.7%) for 314 yards with 4 TD passes and 0 interceptions (139.4 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 3 times for 7 yards (2.3 ypc).

The Houston Texans place linebacker Shawn Barber on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 11:13 am

The Texans have placed linebacker Shawn Barber on the Injured Reserve List ending his season with a neck injury.  Barber finishes the season with a whopping 6 tackles.  This will hurt the linebacking depth a little bit but the Texans should be able to overcome it.

Matt Schaub will miss this week for the Houston Texans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,General,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 11:11 am

Matt Schaub will miss this week due to a concussion.  Schaub has played decent this season for the Texans as he has completed 146 of 215 passes (67.9%) for 1,658 yards with 5 TD passes and 7 interceptions (85.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 14 times for 38 yards (2.7 ypc).  Sage Rosenfels will start this week’s game against the Raiders and it won’t be much of a dropoff in performance.  In fact, it’s very possible that Rosenfels will outplay Schaub.  He has completed 50 of 74 passes (67.6%) for 548 yards with 6 TD passes and 5 interceptions (88.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 3 times for 7 yards (2.3 ypc).

San Diego Chargers 35, Houston Texans 10

The Texans didn’t have a prayer in this game as they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot last Sunday.  Matt Schaub completed 11 of 18 passes for 77 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs before leaving the game with a injury.  Sage Rosenfels finished up the game by completing 17 of 27 passes for 176 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  Adimchinobe Echemandu got his first action of the season for the Texans and he carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards (6.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 11 yards.  Ron Dayne was awful as he carried the ball 17 times for 47 yards (2.8 ypc).  Kevin Walter was the Texans’ leading receiver as he caught 7 passes for 77 yards.  The Texans finished up with 115 yards rushing on 29 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 45 passes for 252 yards.

The defense actually played pretty well for the Texans.  DeMeco Ryans led the way for the Texans defense with 8 tackles.  The Chargers finished up rushing for 109 yards on 28 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 7 of 11 passes for 128 yards.

Tennessee Titans 38, Houston Texans 36

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by dawgpounded on Thursday 1 November 2007 at 11:44 am

This was a heartbreaker for the Texans.  They made one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history only to lose on a last second field goal by Rob Bironas.  The Texans were down 32-7 heading into the 4th quarter and then backup QB Sage Rosenfels threw 4 TDs in the last quarter to give the Texans a lead with less than a minute left before the Titans drove for the winning field goal.  This is the kind of loss that can scar a team for a while.  Matt Schaub only completed 5 of 9 passes for 23 yards before being knocked out of the game due to an injury.  Sage Rosenfels replaced Schaub and he played well.  Rosenfels completed 22 of 35 passes for 290 yards with 4 TD passes and 3 interceptions.  Ahman Green didn’t add much to the offense as he carried the ball 11 times for 39 yards (3.5 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 32 yards (6.4 avg).  Kevin Walter was the leading receiver for the Texans in this game with 6 receptions for 97 yards (16.2 avg) with a TD grab.  Andre Davis also had a solid game as he caught 4 passes for 88 yards (22.0 avg) and a TD which was a 53-yarder to give the Texans the lead late in the 4th quarter.  David Anderson (4 rec, 45 yards) and Jeb Putzier (1 rec, 7 yards) each caught a TD pass.   The Texans finished up with only 39 yards rushing on 12 carries (3.3 ypc) and they completed 27 of 44 passes for 294 yards.

DeMeco Ryans led the Texans defensive effort which was pretty poor overall.  He made 11 tackles, had a sack and recovered 2 fumbles including one that he returned 26 yards for a TD.  The Titans finished up with 155 yards rushing on 39 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 42 passes for 267 yards.
