The Houston Texans sign undrafted free agent Jared Zabransky

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Draft Results,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 2 May 2007 at 8:34 pm

The Houston Texans have signed former Boise State QB Jared Zabransky as an undrafted free agent.  One of the biggest reasons that Zabransky went undrafted is because he’s a gunslinger that takes too many chances.  But, that’s also what makes him exciting to watch.  It will be interesting to see if he can make the Texans roster behind Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels.  Zabransky is a great athlete as he’s 6’1″, 205 and he can run a 4.55 in the 40 yard dash.  In his four seasons at Boise State, Zabransky completed 610 of 980 passes (62.2%) for 8,256 yards with 58 TD passes and 37 interceptions.  He’s also not afraid to tuck the ball and run.

I know this kid and have watched him play for years.
You Texans picked up a hell of a player. Keep an eye on him!

Time will show Houston picked up one of the top 3 quarterbacks to come out in 07. Yes, I said top 3. I know him, my Dad coached him in baseball, he is coachable, has a good work ethic, he’s smart and extremely athletic. He should have the number 3 spot cemented by fall.

ZABRANSKY IS THE NEXT JOE NAMATH. NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. HOUSTON IS VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HIM ON THEIR ROSTER. I AM NOW A HOUSTON FAN.

Playing great at Boise State is one thing. Playing great in the NFL is quite another animal. Zabransky will have an uphill battle to even make the roster of the Texans. It will be interesting to see if the Texans will carry 3 QB’s because Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels are pretty much gauranteed spots on the team. That being said, Zabransky is definately worth giving a tryout to and he might surprise the Texans front office.

you guys are soo oblivous… hall of famer???? the next joe Namath??? are you kidding me??? this guy was a avg WAC qb… he wouldnt of started at any bcs school… he will be hell of lucky to make the team as a special teams player… he will nver be a nfl teams starting QB… get real

  8. Comment by Josh — May 23, 2007 @ 2:52 am

    Average???

You show me one other quarterback in 2007 that led his team to an undefeated season……no matter the league or level of play…

Then tell me that that quarterback is average as well….

Zabransky was a good college QB. But the Pros is a big leap in competition from Boise State’s schedule. He will get a chance, but he’s not likely to have a better career than Matt Schaub or Sage Rosenfels.

Jared Zabransky is an extremely valuable asset for the Texans. Are you trying to tell me that Matt Schaub or Sage Rosenfels have the athletic ability of Zabransky? That is rediculous. I am a Falcons fan, therefore, a Matt Schaub fan. But he is not mobile, average arm, and a career backup. And who is Rosenfels?? The point being, even if you call Z average or slightly below average, he is still a better bet for at least a #2 spot on the Texans roster. He is physically and mentally tough that can make things happen for whatever team he is on. Maybe not a hall of famer or the next Joe Namath, but maybe a Brad Johnson, Ben Rothlisberger, or how bout a Rich Gannon in his prime. I say lets give the kid a chance, he’s earned one.

Zabransky will have to play great in Training Camp and the Pre-Season just to make the Texans. It’s amazing to me that so many people like him, because all 32 teams passed on him during the Draft. That means he’s not highly thought of at all. But, he will get his chance to prove them all wrong. Maybe he can follow in Tony Romo’s footsteps and eventually start, but the odds are stacked against him.

Jared Zabransky will be a starter in the NFL because he is smart and athletic. Give him a chance and he is going to prove a lot of people wrong.

Jared has the potential to be the next John Elway. Just like Elway it will take him awhile to win the big one. During his time at Boise State he came through in the clutch once and only once. I am a Boise State fan, this is a gifted athlete that has shown that his feet lead his mind. John Elway and Steve Young started out the same way. If He can get the right coaching he will not go through what they went through. I just dont see the Texans as the right fit. They took a David Carr, Whom will eventually lead a team to a championship and made him out to be a schmuk. They drafted defense once again while thier offensive line gave up the most sacks in the NFL.

Zabransky was a good college QB but he won’t be like John Elway and here’s why: You have to play to be an NFL Hall of Famer and Zabransky just isn’t going to play unless the other two QBs on the Texans get injured.

hes the best around, nothings never gonna bring him down..

I was actually hoping Dallas would grab him sometime before the season started, but I guess not. I never heard of or even seen him play, but after seeing the Fiesta Bowl, I was surprised. This kids good!

  19. Comment by dawgpounded — June 10, 2007 @ 4:43 pm

He would have been a nice fit in Dallas. He might be ok in Houston but he’ll need things to break just right for him to be anything more than a practice squad player for the Texans.

Jared Zabransky is a great football player, I am a huge Boise State fan. I think he can do great in the NFL although he has to impress the texans to get the spot, personally I think he can do it. You got to realize the hall of famers had to start somewhere im pretty sure they wernt the best of the best right when the stepped on the field and Jared has the skills to become a really good NFL QB so you gotta give him some credit.

this guys like carr. helluva an arm, more speed and fearless. ive never been a fan of Z but he can do it. so what if takes too many chances. thats what the texans franchise needs. Z can easily beat Schaub for the starting job. Schaub sucked in college. Z didnt have all the luck but Z is a better overall athlete he is what we need.

  22. Comment by dawgpounded — June 21, 2007 @ 8:10 pm

I don’t think Zabransky has a chance in hell to beat out Matt Schaub after what the Texans had to trade to get him. Zabransky would be in good shape if he can beat out Bradlee Van Pelt for the #3 QB job. That won’t be easy because Van Pelt played for Kubiak in Denver and you know what he thinks about those kind of guys.

We’ll see soon enough Stevie. He will have his big chance later this month and he better be ready. He can’t slip up at all if he wants to make the Texans roster.

I can’t believe Jared was undrafted. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Zabransky starting for the Texans before the end of the 2007-2008 season. This guy’s got it all…especially passion for the game–which cannot be judged by running and passing stats. Jared’s performance in his finale Bowl game win was absolutely amazing. He will carry his passion and momentum forward to the NFL for sure. I’m a cradle Redskins fans…but I will be pulling for Jared & the Texans for sure!!!

Everyone keeps comparing Z to other QB’s, degrading the WAC skill level, and even degrading Z for not playing for a BCS school. HOWEVER, that’s the point!! BoiseState Football is and will always be about taking players that BCS schools won’t look at… Yes, Z is in an etire different and more difficult league (duh!), but if you give him a chance, HINT: give him a chance, you should be surprised. Let the coaches do their job, and let Z have the opportunity. He deserves it!

  26. Comment by dawgpounded — August 12, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

The Texans should definately let Zabransky play next week after how poorly Bradlee Van Pelt played last night. I don’t care if he is Kubiak’s buddy from Denver, 1 for 7 for 8 yards won’t get it done. The Texans should have won the game last night.

jared has talent, desire, and a heart that won’t quit, that is what the nfl needs more of.. remember brian piccolo!!

Come on now Terry. I really hope you aren’t comparing Zabransky to Piccolo. Piccolo was playing with a body full of cancer.
