The Texans have signed linebacker Danny Clark and will give him a chance to win a starting job on the outside.  He played in 16 games last season for the New Orleans Saints and he made 29 tackles.  In 2004 and 2005, Clark played in 32 games for the Oakland Raiders and he made 242 tackles.  The Texans hope that they are getting the Oakland Raiders model of Clark.

The Texans re-sign a couple of reserves

The Texans have re-signed CB Roc Alexander and WR Charlie Adams.  Nothing to get excited about here as Alexander only played in 1 game last season and he made 1 tackle and returned a kickoff for 18 yards.  Adams didn’t even play in a game at all last season.  Both of these guys are ex-Broncos so part of the reason they were re-signed is because of their connection to Coach Kubiak.

The Texans sign RB Ahman Green to a 4 year contract

The Texans have signed veteran running back Ahman Green to a 4 year, $22 million dollar contract.  Green played started 14 games for the Green Bay Packers last season and he carried the ball 266 times for 1,059 yards (4.0 ypc) with 5 TD runs.  He also caught 46 passes for 373 yards (8.1 avg) with 1 TD catch.  Over his career, Green has played in 126 games (91 starts) and he has carried the football 1,871 times for 8,491 yards (4.5 ypc) with 54 TD runs.  He also has caught 350 passes for 2,710 yards (7.7 avg) with 14 TD grabs.  This was a good signing for the Texans if they can find a way to keep Green healthy.  He often didn’t practice last season because of his knees and he missed two games last season.

The Texans re-sign two of their own players

The Texans have re-signed OT Ephraim Salaam and DE N.D. Kalu.  Salaam got a brand new three year contract to start for the Texans.  The 6’7″, 300 pound lineman played in 15 games last season for the Texans (14 starts) and he recovered a fumble.  Salaam picked up the new Texans’ zone blocking scheme and will be an asset to their O-Line.

Kalu played in 15 games last season and he made 21 tackles, had 2 sacks and defensed a pass.  He’s a good team player and he really like playing in Houston.  Still, he nothing more than a decent back up on the defensive line.
