The Houston Texans re-sign a couple of offensive players

The Texans have re-signed RB Chris Taylor and QB Bradlee Van Pelt.  Taylor played in 4 games for the Texans last season and he carried the ball 28 times for 123 yards (4.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 3 passes for 40 yards (13.3 avg).  QB Bradlee Van Pelt was re-signed to be the clipboard holding #3 QB for the Texans.  He didn’t play at all for the Texans last season and he’s only played in 3 games in his NFL career.  He has only completed 2 of 8 passes for 7 yards (39.6 QB Rating).  He has carried the ball 11 times for 48 yards (4.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Van Pelt is really only in Houston because he played for Coach Kubiak in Denver.

The Houston Texans release QB David Carr

The Texans tried hard to trade David Carr but they couldn’t find any takers so they released him.  Carr started all 16 games last season for the Texans and he completed 302 of 442 passes (68.3%) for 2,767 yards with 11 TD passes and 12 interceptions (QB Rating 82.1).  He also carried the ball 53 times for 195 yards (3.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  The Texans gave David Carr a fair shot to prove himself as he was the starting QB for five seasons.  He played in 76 games (75 starts) and he completed 1,243 of 2,070 passes (60%) for 13,391 yards with 59 TD passes and 65 interceptions (75.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 268 times for 1,235 yards (4.6 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  Look for Carr to get another chance to start with another team in 2007.

The Houston Texans release RB Domanick Williams

You might know him better by the name of Domanick Davis.  If you want to blame someone for the Texans not drafting Reggie Bush…here is your guy as the Texans thought he would be ready for the season.  He didn’t wind up playing a down for the Texans last season and now he will need another round of knee surgery.  Davis was a fine player when healthy for the Texans as he played in 40 games (36 starts) for them.  He carried the football 770 times for 3,195 yards (4.1 ypc) with 23 TD runs.  He also caught 154 passes for 1,276 yards (8.3 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  It’s too bad his career with the Texans had to end this way because he was a good football player for them.

The Houston Texans match offer sheet to fullback Vonta Leach

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Breaking News, Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 25 March 2007 at 12:02 am

The Texans have matched the 4 year, $8 million dollar offer sheet that the Giants presented to Vonta Leach.  Leach is a good lead blocker but he didn’t carry the ball even once last season.  He played in 12 games (5 starts) and he caught 6 passes for 61 yards (10.2 avg) with 1 TD catch.  He will definately help out newly acquired RB Ahman Green in the running game for the Texans.

The Houston Texans make a huge trade with the Atlanta Falcons to bring in QB Matt Schaub

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Breaking News, Front Page by dawgpounded on Saturday 24 March 2007 at 8:22 am

The Houston Texans acquired QB Matt Schaub and the #10 pick in the first round of this year’s draft and traded their #8 pick in the first round plus their 2nd round picks in both 2007+2008 to the Atlanta Falcons.  This ended David Carr’s career in Houston as the Texans decided to go in a different direction at the QB position.  Schaub is an unproven player at the NFL level so the Texans are taking a big chance on Schaub because he didn’t come cheaply.  In 2006 Schaub only threw 27 passes and he completed 18 of them (66.7%) for 208 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions (QB Rating 71.2).  He also carried the ball 7 times for 21 yards (3.0 ypc).  Over Schaub’s career he has completed 84 of 161 passes (52.2%) for 1,033 yards with 6 TD passes and 6 interceptions (69.2 QB Rating).  He also has carried the football 24 times for 123 yards (5.1 ypc).  Schaub definately has the talent to be a starting QB in the NFL, but will he be a good one?  One time will tell.  The Texans better hope he is because they paid a large price for him.
