Texans beaten by Jets 26-11

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 26 November 2006 at 10:47 pm

The Texans just couldn’t keep up with the Jets in this game.  David Carr completed 39 of 54 passes for 321 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  The Texans really couldn’t get anything going on the ground as Wali Lundy had 8 carries for 14 yards (1.4 ypc), but he caught 8 passes for 68 yards.  Andre Johnson added 10 receptions for 98 yards and a TD.  Eric Moulds pitched in with 10 catches for 79 yards.  TE Owen Daniels caught 5 passes for 34 yards.

Demeco Ryans led the way on defense with 13 tackles.  The Texans played well against the Jets run game, holding them to 27 yards on 26 carries (1.0 ypc).  The Jets passed well though, as they completed 24 of 32 passes for 277 net yards thru the air.

The Texans are now 3-8 on the season.

Houston Texans vs. New York Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 24 November 2006 at 10:59 am

The Texans have been playing better as of late, as their last four games have been decided by 6 or less points (one win).  The Jets are sitting at 5-5 and have a shot at making the playoffs if they can get hot.

Look for the Texans to come out running the ball with Wali Lundy (404 yards rushing) and Samkon Gado (213 yards rushing) at the Jets run defense which is allowing 146.2 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  The Texans will then attack the Jets secondary which is allowing 207.2 net yards passing per game.  David Carr has played pretty well so far this season, and his receivers should be able to have big games as long as the Texans line gives him enough time to throw.  Andre Johnson (74 rec, 884 yards) and Eric Moulds will have a huge advantage over the Jets corners.

The Jets will probably come out running the ball with one of their backs.  Coach Mangini has been rotating the backs so it’s hard to figure out which one will get the ball.  The Texans allow 125.2 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry, so the Jets will no doubt attempt to run the ball.  Chad Pennington has had a rough time throwing the ball lately, but the Texans have a horrible pass defense.  The Texans allow 226.9 net yards passing per game.

This game should be higher scoring than it looks like it will be on paper.  I think the Texans have more talent, but the Jets have been very lucky this season.

Texans choke in 4th quarter and lose 24-21

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 20 November 2006 at 10:47 am

The Texans did everything they wanted to on offense.  They ran the ball well and David Carr tied the NFL record of hitting 22 straight passes, but it the end it didn’t matter.  The Texans defense played pretty awful yesterday.

David Carr had a pretty good game for himself, as he completed 25 of 30 passes for 223 yards and an interception.  Samkon Gado carried the ball 10 times for 69 yards (6.9 ypc) and a TD.  Gado also caught 5 passes for 30 yards.  Wali Lundy was also pretty busy with 8 carries for 61 yards (7.6 ypc) and a TD.  Lundy also caught 4 passes for 22 yards.  Andre Johnson had a good game with 6 receptions for 76 yards and he also had a carry for 18 yards.  Eric Moulds had a decent game with 5 catches for 68 yards.

The Texans defense only had one good play the whole game when Dunta Robinson picked off a Losman pass and returned it 9 yards for a TD.  The Texans allowed the Bills to rush for 70 yards on 21 carries (3.3 ypc).  The Bills completed 26 of 38 passes for 333 net yards passing.

This game really stings, because the Bills scored the winning TD with 9 seconds left in the game.

Houston Texans vs. Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Current Weeks Matchup,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 16 November 2006 at 4:02 pm

These two teams are pretty evenly matched as they both have bad offenses & defenses.  The Bills are coming off of a great effort in a losing cause against the Colts.  The Texans just finished their sweep of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Look for the Bills to come into this game with the same plan they always do….to run the football.  The A-Train (Anthony Thomas) went over 100 yards rushing last week against the Colts and he should have success again against a Texans defense that allows 131.3 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  Look for the Bills to let Losman try to go deep a few times to Lee Evans (44 rec, 557 yards) because of the Texans weak secondary.  The Texans allow 215.1 yards passing per game and allow the opposing QB to have a rating of 90.8 against them.

The Texans will also look to run the ball early to set up their passing game.  Look for Samkon Gado and Wali Lundy to test out the Bills defense that is allowing 121.3 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  If David Carr’s bruised shoulder is up to it, look for the Texans to challenge the Bills CBs deep.  Andre Johnson (68 rec, 808 yards) and Eric Moulds (who wants to stick it to his old team) should be able to get open, especially whoever Terrance McGee is covering.

I think I will have to side with the Texans in a close game.  The Texans have the better QB and they’re at home.

The Houston Texans ransacked by injuries

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 15 November 2006 at 12:18 am

Nickel corner Lewis Sanders will miss the remainder of the season with a broken hand.  Dexter McCleon will take over for Sanders in the nickel defense.

Starting DT Travis Johnson (calf) and starting RT Zach Wiegert (torn ACL) have been both placed on the Injured Reserve List ending their seasons.  This really hurts the Texans who were starting to play better along the lines.

DE Antwan Peek will miss a few weeks with a sprained MCL.

These injuries are a big blow to the Texans who had just started to play better.  It will be interesting to see how many young players step up for the Texans.

Texans sweep the Jaguars with big 13-10 road win

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 9:29 pm

The Texans controlled the clock with a perfect gameplan in which the Texans ran 77 offensive plays, while the Jags only ran 53 plays.  David Carr completed 16 of 32 passes for 167 yards and carried the ball 5 times for 48 yards (9.6 ypc) until he had to leave the game in the 4th quarter after taking a wicked shot to his shoulder.  Sage Rosenfels finished up the game completing 1 of 3 passes for 9 yards.  Samkon Gado had a good game with 17 carries for 67 yards (3.9 ypc).  Wali Lundy had a rough time with 16 carries for 34 yards (2.1 ypc) and a TD.  Andre Johnson caught 3 passes for 56 yards.  TE Owen Daniels had 4 receptions for 55 yards.

The defense was playing like a pack of thieves against the Jags, picking off 4 of David Garrard’s passes.  Dunta Robinson, Morlon Greenwood, Anthony Weaver and Demarcus Faggins all picked off a pass.  DE Jason Babin had 2 sacks to lead the pass rush.  The Jags still ran the ball well, carrying it 19 times for 118 yards (6.2 ypc).  The Jags only completed 15 of 34 passes for 204 net yards passing.

This was a huge win for the young Texans.

Texans install new return man

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 1:03 am

The Texans have released Edell Shepherd because of his poor play as a punt returner.  Dexter Wynn will take over as the punt returner against the Jaguars.

Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Blogged under Bloglockers,Current Weeks Matchup,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 10 November 2006 at 4:32 pm

The Texans will try to sweep the Jaguars after punishing them just three weeks ago (27-7)!  The Jaguars will be looking for revenge and they’ve played well since that beat down winning both of their games by a combined score of 50-13.

The Texans offense has looked much better the last three weeks.  Wali Lundy has been running the ball well and David Carr has been getting time to throw.  The Texans will try to run the ball first against the Jaguars with Lundy (309 yards rushing) against a tough Jags defense that allows 98.3 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry.  If Carr keeps getting protection against the Jags, he could have success throwing the ball to Andre Johnson (65 rec, 732 yards), Eric Moulds and TE Owen Daniels.

The Jaguars with revenge on the mind will try to beat up the Texans defense physically with their running game.  Fred Taylor (633 yards rushing) and Maurice Drew (320 yards rushing) will keep the offense humming against the Texans who allow 133.0 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  QB David Garrard is also a threat to run the ball, but he will likely try to pass short off of play-action and he should have success against a very giving pass defense of the Texans (216.5 net yards passing).

I think the Jags will probably get their revenge on Sunday, but the Texans should come into this game very confident because of the beating they administered just three weeks ago to the Jags.  This will be a much better game than most people think it will and the Texans will definately cover the 10.5 point spread.

Houston Texans QBs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 9:27 pm

Coach Kubiak has done a great job with the Texans QBs.  David Carr is having by far, his best season in the NFL.  Carr has completed 70.4% of his shots for 1,506 yards with 9 TDs and 5 INTs.  Carr has a QB rating of 93.0 this season and is among the league leaders.  Carr has been sacked 21 times this season so far which isn’t much for him.  Carr is also a good runner with 27 carries for 87 yards (3.2 ypc) and 2 TDs.  Carr is re-paying the organization for their faith in him.

Sage Rosenfels got to play in one game because Carr got yanked, and he almost brought them back from a large deficit.  Rosenfels has completed 26 of 36 passes (72.2%) for 256 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT.  That is good for a 108.1 QB rating.  The Texans have a lot of confidence in Rosenfels if he had to play.

Texans play hard but lose 14-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 5 November 2006 at 7:31 pm

The Texans wasted a good defensive effort because they couldn’t move the ball against the Giants.  David Carr completed 21 of 30 passes for 176 yards and carried the ball 5 times for 24 yards (4.8 ypc) and a TD.  Wali Lundy had a rough time as he carried the ball 20 times for 43 yards (2.2 ypc) and caught 3 passes for 16 yards.  Andre Johnson had a good game with 9 receptions for 83 yards.

Rookie LB DeMeco Ryans led the way for the defense with 9 tackles and a sack.  SS Glen Earl had a good game with 3 tackles and an interception.  The Giants ran the ball 28 times for 122 yards (4.4 ypc).  The Texans allowed the Giants to complete 17 of 28 passes for 163 net yards passing.

Close, but no cigar.
