Texans acquire RB Samkon Gado from Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Breaking News,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 13 September 2006 at 4:56 pm

The Texans traded Vernand Morency to the Packers for Samkon Gado.  Gado is a big, bruising type running back.  Texans OL coach Mike Sherman probably pushed for this trade because he coached Gado last season in Green Bay.  Gado probably won’t play much, if at all, this week.  Look for Ron Dayne to take over the carries that Morency would have got against the Colts.

Texans vs. Colts

The Texans can keep this game close if they can duplicate the Giants’ gameplan from Sunday night.  The Colts gave up 186 yards rushing to the Giants, the problem for the Texans is that they don’t have comparable skill players to pull it off.  Rookie RB Wali Lundy and Vernand Morency should get some yards if the line gives them a little running room.  WRs Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds can beat the Colts’ DBs if the line gives David Carr some time.

Peyton Manning will light up a Texans’ secondary that allowed Donovan McNabb and the Eagles to throw for 311 yards.  The Colts would like to establish a running game with Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai, but it won’t be essential to get the Colts a win here.

This game could be a little closer than most people think but the Colts will win.

Texans beat up by Eagles 24-10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 7:27 pm

The score doesn’t quite tell the whole story of this game, because the Eagles dominated this game.  David Carr completed 18 of 27 passes (66.7%) for 208 yards and a TD, he also ran the ball 4 times for 25 yards (6.3 avg).  Rookie RB Wali Lundy had a rough game, carrying the ball 11 times for 32 yards (2.9 ypc).  Vernand Morency carried the ball 5 times for 13 yards (2.6 ypc).  WR Andre Johnson had a good game catching 6 passes for 101 yards (16.8 avg) and Eric Moulds caught 6 passes for 68 yards (11.3 avg) and a TD.

Rookie LB DeMeco Ryans was the only defender that showed up on Sunday, as he had 13 tackles.  The Eagles pounded the Texans on the ground, rushing for 130 yards and averaging 4.3 yards per carry.  The Eagles lit up the Texans secondary, completing 68.6% of their passes for 311 net yards thru the air.

Coach Kubiak has a long road ahead of him to make this bunch a better football team.

Texans vs. Eagles

All this talk about the Eagles running more is a bunch of hogwash.  Brian Westbrook’s foot is still giving him problems, Correll Buckhalter can’t carry the load with his knees and Ryan Moats has never been a lead back.  I look for the Eagles to attempt to throw the ball alot against the Texans.  The Eagles offensive line should be able to keep Donovan McNabb clean as long as they keep rookie DE Mario Williams out of their backfield.  CB Dunta Robinson is a fine player for the Texans, but he can’t cover everyone.  Dontae’ Stallworth, Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett should be able to cause problems for the Texans secondary.  TE LJ Smith should have a good day against the safeties of the Texans too.

The Texans will attempt to run a Denver-style offense, using the zone-block running game and play-action passing using bootlegs.  Rookie Wali Lundy and Vernand Morency will get most of the carries this week for Houston.  MLB Jeremiah Trotter will have to be moved by the guards or center to make the offense work, because it all starts with the running game.  QB David Carr will probably try to take some shots down the field if he has time.  WR Andre Johnson and Eric Moulds are a fine tandem, but the Eagles have one of the best secondaries in the NFL.

I look for the Eagles to win a close game, as the Texans are one of the most improved teams in the league this year.

Gary Kubiak

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 5 September 2006 at 1:14 pm

Gary Kubiak has never been a head coach in the NFL.  Kubiak was the offensive co-ordinator for the Denver Broncos from 1995-2005.  Kubiak will bring the Denver-style offense to Houston, and it should help them improve quickly.

Texans sign RB Ron Dayne

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 4 September 2006 at 12:50 pm

The Denver Broncos shuttle continues to Houston.  Dayne was beaten out for a roster spot in Denver, but his old co-ordinator Gary Kubiak signed him up.  Dayne has played in 72 games (14 starts) and has 2.337 yards rushing (3.7 ypc) and 17 TDs.  Dayne also has caught 26 passes for 151 yards (5.8 avg).

Texans Career QB numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 4 September 2006 at 11:52 am

David Carr has a career record of 16-43 (27.1% wins) and a 73.7 career QB rating.

Sage Rosenfels has an 0-2 career record with a career QB rating of 68.4.

Texans sign WR Edell Shepherd

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 4 September 2006 at 11:49 am

Edell Shepherd was a nice little signing for the Texans..  Shepherd has played in 18 games in his career and has caught 10 passes for 141 yards and a TD.  Shedherd also has returned 20 kicks for 414 yards.  Shepherd will probably be the #4 WR to start the season and will help out alot on special teams……maybe even returning some kicks until Mathis returns.

Texans look good in 16-13 win over Bucs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 1 September 2006 at 11:27 am

The Texans gave most of their starters the night off Thursday and the team still prevailed.  Sage Rosenfels completed 6 of 9 passes for 56 yards and a TD.  Cody Pickett completed 8 of 11 passes (72.7%) for 87 yards.  Quin Porter connected on 4 of 8 passes for 33 yards.

Running back Antowain Smith looked great carrying the ball 8 times for 69 yards (8.6 ypc).

The Texans held the Bucs to 96 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.2 ypc).  The Bucs completed 65.7% of their passes for 185 net yards in the air.
