Current Texans odds

The current over/under for Texans wins is 5 1/2.  The Texans are 120-1 to win the Super Bowl and 60-1 to win the AFC.

I suggest a small play on the over.  Coach Kubiak did a nice job of bringing in talent even though they made an error in not selecting Reggie Bush.

Texans lose a close one 17-14 to Broncos

The Texans continued to display a much improved defense against the Broncos on Sunday night.  The offense played ok, but not well enough to win.  David Carr completed 15 of 22 passes for 128 yards and a pick.  Sage Rosenfels completed 10 of 15 passes for 96 yards and a TD.

The running backs were slowed down a bit by the Broncos, a team that runs the same style of offense.  Wali Lundy carried the ball 10 times for 44 yards.  Vernand Morency carried the ball 13 times for 26 yards.

The defense played pretty well.   The vaunted Broncos running game had 107 yards, but only averaged 3.5 yards per carry.  The Broncos only completed 48.4% of their passes for a net 164 yards passing.

Young running backs looking good in Davis’ absence

With Domanick Davis nursing injuries, the young Texans running backs are taking advantage of the extra playing time.  Vernand Morency has been great this pre-season, and has solidified his hold as Davis’ back-up.  Morency has carried the ball 11 times for 95 yards (8.6 ypc) and 2 TDs.  Wali Lundy, who lasted until the sixth round because of injury concerns, is healthy and looking good.  Lundy has carried the ball 16 times for 99 yards (6.2 ypc) and a TD.  Lundy is a lock now to make the team.

Texans have looked sharp in pre-season

The Texans have looked incredible in the pre-season.  Hopefully the winning is building confidence in the players for the regular season.  The Texans are averaging a robust 158.0 yards rushing per game and 5.1 yards per carry!  The Texans are passing for only 168.0 yards per game, but they’ve completed 62.3% of their passes.

The Texans defense has played pretty well in the pre-season too.  The Texans have been holding the opposing offense to 83.5 yards per game and only 3.2 yards per carry.  The Texans are giving up 182.0 yards passing per game and allowing their opponents to complete 61.9% of their passes.  Overall the defense looks good so far.

Texans look good on offense, bad on defense in 27-20 win over Rams

First the good news.  The offense rolled up 327 yards despite only having possession of the ball for 23:19 of the game.  The Texans unleashed a powerful running game led by Vernand Morency who carried the ball 11 times for 95 yards and 2 TDs, and caught 3 passes for 19 yards.  Wali Lundy carried the ball 7 times for 40 yards and caught 2 passes for 26 yards.

David Carr completed 10 of 17 passes for 99 yards.  Sage Rosenfels completed 6 of 9 passes for 99 yards and a TD.  Andre Johnson was the leading receiver catching 4 passes for 38 yards.

The defense couldn’t get off the field as the Rams used a ball-control passing attack to play keep-away.  The Rams completed 28 of 45 passes for a net of 298 yards passing.  The Texans did good against the run holding the Rams to 61 yards rushing on 27 carries.
