Mario Williams (1, DE)

Blogged under Draft Results, Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 30 July 2006 at 5:18 pm

The Texans didn’t so much as pass on Reggie Bush, they wanted Mario Williams.  Williams and Bushs’ names will always be linked together because of draft position, but Williams could wind up the better player and vindicate the Texans front office.  Williams is a big guy 6′6″, 285 pounds that runs a freakish 4.6 40.  The only thing that could stop him is that sometimes he takes plays off.  If Williams can fix that problem he will be a Pro Bowler, and soon.  Williams can stop the run or the pass which makes him special as you just put him on the field and leave him there.  Williams is a game changing force who should register double digit sack totals starting this season.

Williams is only 20 years old, but he played 36 games at NC State (all starts) and compiled 175 tackles, 52 tackles for loss, 25.5 sacks, forced three fumbles and recovered two.

Williams will only get better and will live in the opponents backfield.  Peyton Manning, Byron Leftwich and Vince Young will all soon know about Mr. Williams.

Texans acquire QB Pickett from 49ers

This is a low-risk move for the Texans as they look for a #3 QB for this season.  It is believed that the Texans will only send a pick to the 49ers if Pickett makes the team.  Pickett has been horrible so far in his career compiling a 16.4 QB rating in six games (2 starts) completing 40.0% of his passes for 195 yards with no TD passes and 4 pick-offs.

David Carr…will the improvement continue?

Blogged under Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 27 July 2006 at 11:01 am

Poor David Carr.  He has been sacked an astounding 208 times in the 60 games he’s played in (59 starts) which proves how tough he is.  A little closer look at the numbers suggest that he’s getting quite better as a QB despite the beating he’s taken.  In his last two seasons (32 starts) he has completed 60.9% of his passes for 6,019 yards with 30 TD passes and 25 interceptions.  When compared to his first two seasons…..28 games (27 starts) 54.1% completions for 4,605 yards with 18 TD and 28 INT, you can start to see the improvement.  Adding Eric Moulds was a huge move for Carr if the line protects him because now Andre Johnson won’t be double-teamed as much.

The Texans better hope Carr stays healthy.  In the off-season the Texans signed Sage Rosenfels to be Carr’s back-up.  Rosenfels has been primarily a clipboard holder in Miami and Washington and for good reason.  He has only played in 13 games (2 starts) and completed 49.5% of his passes for 776 yards with six TD and six INT.  The Texans will be picking high in the draft for sure if Rosenfels has to play.
